Cemented Carbide

Description
Cemented carbide is also called widia or tungsten carbide. It is a hard material used in machining tough materials such as carbon steel or stainless steel. Carbide will always leave a better finish on the part, and allows faster machining. It can also withstand higher temperatures than standard high speed steel tools. Cemented carbide varies in carbide grain size (0.2 to 50 microns) and by binder contents (up to 30%), as well as by the addition of other carbides. By varying the grain size of the tungsten carbide and the binder content in the matrix, engineers have access to a class of materials whose properties can be tailored to a variety of engineering applications.

Applications
Cemented carbide can be used in high-tech tools, wear parts and tools for the construction, mining and oil and gas areas.

Features
Tungsten carbide products typically have high wear resistance and can be used at high temperatures. Compared with similar steel products, cemented carbide products possess high hardness and toughness significantly.
